Salar de Uyuni
The Salar de Uyuni, in the middle of the Andes in southern
Bolivia, is the largest salt flat in the world. It is the legacy of a
prehistoric lake that dried up and left a desert landscape of almost 11,000
square km of sparkling white salt, rock formations and cactus islands. Its
mystical extension can be seen from the central Incahuasi island. Although
fauna is rare in this unique ecosystem, it is home to several pink flamingos.
